DIY activity 18: Disney Tangled Rapunzel Yarn wig

Tangled is a 2010 American 3D computer-animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Loosely based on the German fairy tale “Rapunzel” in the collection of folk tales published by the Brothers Grimm.  Even though I dislike this movie due to its sort of anti-feministic approach (Rapunzel being a terrible role model, abduction, falling in love with dishonest person…..I can go on), I must say this movie is a ‘piece of art’. Rapunzel’s hair isn’t the only visual that got the star treatment in “Tangled.” As Disney’s first computer-generated fairy-tale, the film had to look and feel just right. To do that, the digital artists took full advantage of everything CGI had to offer: dynamic lighting, flexible cinematography and — obviously – depth, rendering to give it that hazy, almost oil painting-like quality that makes the film really “pop” onscreen. When the animated film “Frozen” was released last year, no one expected it to become a worldwide juggernaut. “Frozen,” which earned more than $1.2 billion at the box office, is not only the first “princess” movie to make the list of top 10 grossing animated films, even more astonishingly, it is also the No. 1 animated film of all time. Little girls have long been drawn to princesses. My twins were born, the same year the movie was released (2013) and have literally grown up watching the movie. My twins now almost 5, enjoy re-enacting the scene when it comes on and that they never change characters; one twin always plays Elsa, and the other plays Anna. From their dramatic positions on the floor to their giggling while they run around, the twins are spot-on. Hence this summer I wanted to give them a little surprise by making these Elsa-Anna crochet wigs made of beautiful yarn. Continue reading “DIY activity 17: Disney Frozen Elsa & Anna Yarn Wig Hair”

School Admissions (Part 2): Comprehensive Comparison between CBSE and ICSE boards in India

Protected by Copyscape

In my previous post I have noted down the comparative salient features of the common school boards available in India. The choice of board makes a significant difference in the early development of the child and his/her exposure to the kind of education system that we have. In the Indian education system, two of the most recognised boards of education that one gets to opt for are CBSE and ICSE. In this article I have made a chart comparing the detail points between CBSE and ICSE boards in India.

During the admission process of my twin girls I had narrowed down to these two boards, considering that IB and IGCSE boards do not have great reviews in Pune (2016) and also the state board wouldn’t have a good exposure for competitive exams. Having said that it does not mean they are bad or have lesser standard than CBSE and ICSE, but each child has their own individual personality and needs which should complement the board you choose for them. Both my girls have different personalities, one is a studious kind for whom ICSE was better suited and the other is a free spirited artistic one who would do better in CBSE. Lot of other factors made me choose CBSE for both of my kids, which I will discuss in the next article.

Following is the Chart comparing both the boards. Please do click on the link: Comparative chart of CBSE vs ICSE

The selection of a suitable board for your child can make a lot of difference in their early development and level of exposure that they will get. Every parent wants their child to be in an environment which is conducive to their overall growth. Think, analyze and then take a calculated move.
